COPYRIGHT
It is the policy of the Monroe City School Board to abide by the provisions of the Copyright Law of the United States and the Congressional Guidelines that delineate it.
The Board does not sanction illegal use or duplication of copyrighted materials in any form. Employees who willfully violate the copyright position of the Board do so at their own risk and assume all liability and responsibility.
The School Board directs that:
Unlawful copies of copyrighted materials may not be produced on Board-owned equipment or within Board-owned facilities.
Unlawful copies of copyrighted materials may not be used with Board-owned equipment, within Board-owned facilities, or at Board-sponsored functions.
Information about copyright law and guidelines shall be made available to all employees.
The Board delegates to the building level administrator the responsibility for informing employees of the Copyright policy of the Board and of provisions of the United States Copyright Law.
COPYRIGHT GUIDELINES
Software
It is the intention of Monroe City School Board to adhere to provisions of copyright regulations in its use of computer software and to comply with the license agreements of software packages purchased by the district for use in its schools and offices. All employees of the Monroe City School Board shall be made aware of the potential for copyright infringement and shall be notified of the following procedures regarding the use of software.
Illegal copies of software shall not be made or used on School Board equipment.
Archival backup copies may not be used on a second computer simultaneously with the original.
All software loaded on a local area network shall be covered by a written license agreement from the copyright holder.
Text and Graphics
Users shall respect the rights of copyright owners in their use of materials found on, disseminated through, or posted to the Internet. All Monroe City schools shall follow the guidelines of The Consortium of College and University Media Centers as set forth in their Fair Use Guidelines for Educational Multimedia.
Intellectual Property Rights
Students have full rights to work they create using the district’s equipment and/or resources.
Employees, as agents of the School Board, have limited rights to work they create using the Board’s equipment and/or resources. The School Board shall retain the right to use any product created for its use by an employee even when the author is no longer an employee of the Board.
Consequences for Copyright Infringement
All faculty, staff, and students must adhere to the copyright laws of the United States and the Congressional Guidelines that delineate it regarding software, authorship, and copying information. Failure to do so may result in revocation of use and/or legal action.
