VACATION

All employees of the Monroe City School Board employed on a full-time twelve (12) month fiscal year basis shall be eligible to accrue up to two (2) weeks of vacation time per year.  Employees who are employed full-time on less than a twelve (12) month basis shall not be eligible for vacation.

Effective July 1, 1999, eligible employees who have ten (10) or more years of experience within the district shall receive three (3) weeks of annual paid vacation.

Usage of vacation time shall commence July 1 of each year and expire July 31 of the following year.  Each employee shall notify his/her immediate supervisor of his/her request for vacation days at least two (2) weeks prior to the date requested.  In case of conflicting requests within a department, the employee with seniority shall receive priority in assignment of vacation time.  The department director or appropriate supervisor may deny a request for a specific vacation period if the time requested severely affects the operation of the school system or functioning of the department.  Vacation time exceeding two (2) days shall not be extended to any employee two (2) weeks prior to or two (2) weeks after the opening of school.  Exceptions to these procedures may be granted by the Superintendent upon written request from the employee.

An eligible employee who starts work at a date later than July 1 shall have vacation eligibility pro-rated for the first year according to the number of months worked.  No employee, at any time, shall be permitted to take vacation days which have not yet been accumulated.  Days shall be accumulated as follows:

  1. Employees with less than ten (10) years experience shall receive 5/6 day per month of service (6.67 hours per month).

  2. Employees with ten (10) or more years of experience shall receive 1¼ days per month of service (10 hours per month.

Effective June 30, 1999 employees shall be permitted to accumulate and carry forward annual vacation days up to a maximum of thirty (30) days.  Upon termination, resignation, or retirement, any unused annual leave shall be paid at the employee’s current daily rate of pay.  Payment shall be made to the employee or his/her heirs on or before the next regular payday for the pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation, whichever occurs first.

DEFERRED RETIREMENT OPTION PROGRAM (DROP)

Any employee of the Monroe City School Board who participates in the Deferred Retirement Option Program (DROP) shall be eligible for and may elect to receive on a one-time basis payment for unused annual leave upon entering DROP on the same basis as any other employee who retires or otherwise leaves employment; otherwise, any accrued annual leave shall be paid only upon final retirement of the employee.
