CLASS RANKINGS
VALEDICTORIAN/SALUTATORIAN
It is the philosophy of the Monroe City School Board that the honors of valedictorian and salutatorian may be awarded to students whose cumulative grade point averages not only reflect the quality of instruction in the entire school district, but specifically to those who exemplify the highest scholastic achievement in the school from which they graduate. The students with the highest and second highest cumulative grade point average, after all grades have been officially reported by teachers, shall be selected valedictorian and salutatorian respectively.
Residency Requirement
To be eligible for the honor of valedictorian and salutatorian, students shall have been in residence for at least the last two (2) semesters in the high school from which they are to graduate.
Student Notification
All students from seventh grade through senior year will be provided with written information and policies about concurrent enrollment, correspondence courses, honors courses, proficiency examinations, the full senior year requirement, and the policy for valedictorian/salutatorian determination. From the point that a student has earned at least one Carnegie unit, the school will provide that student with an annual, printed cumulative record of all Carnegie unit courses taken, grades received, and grade point average.
RANKING OF STUDENTS
The ranking for all students, regardless of graduating date, shall be determined by the cumulative grade point average computed for each year of high school. The quality point average shall be calculated in accordance with the procedures and formula outlined in the Pupil Progression Plan for Monroe City School System. The final average to determine the rank of each student shall be computed to four (4) decimal places.
