TEACHING ABOUT RELIGION
The Monroe City School Board recognizes that religious materials and discussions on religions may be included in the curriculum and in student activities on public school property. To clarify the conditions under which such activities may occur the following provisions shall apply:
No religious belief or non-belief shall be promoted by the Monroe City School District or its employees and none shall be disparaged.
The study of religious materials and religion may be included for its literary, art, humanities, ethics and historic qualities when presented objectively as a part of a secular program of education.
Music, drama, and other forms of artistic expression having religious themes or sources may be a part of the curriculum for school sponsored discussions and assembly programs "if presented in a prudent and objective manner and as a traditional part of the cultural and religious heritage of the particular holiday."
